The answer to this is simple: whatever you want! The idea of collecting sportscards and sports memorabilia in general is to enjoy it and perhaps bring back memories from your childhood watching a start athlete. I enjoy collecting Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Rickey Henderson, Lawrence Taylor and Reggie Jackson cards. Some other suggestions for collecting beyond that of an individual player are:
- The year you were born or the year your children were born.
- Significant sets for the hobby such as 1952 Topps baseball, 1986 Topps football, 1989 Upper Deck baseball, 1986 Fleer basketball, etc…
- Members of exclusive statistical clubs: players with 500 homeruns, 3000 hits, 300 wins in pitching,
30000 point club (basketball), etc… - Hall of Famers.
- Team sets.
- You simply like how that card looks aesthetically.
- Award winners (MVP, Gold Glove, Cy Young, Triple Crown).
- Rookie cards exclusively.
- Game-used sportscards.
- Autographed sportscards.
The name of the game is to have fun!
Happy Collecting
