YES THEY WILL!!! YES THEY ALREADY HAVE!!!
Here’s why:
- Tiger Woods is the best golfer in the history of the sport.
- Tiger Woods is the most dominant athlete in the world.
- Tiger Woods will break Jack Nicklaus’ 18 majors record.
- Tiger Woods does not sign autographs at signings so his autographs are rare.
Autographed Tiger Woods rookie cards have almost tripled in value in the last few years. Two or three years ago you could get a 2001 Sp Authentic Tiger Woods autographed Rookie card graded a PSA GEM MT 10 or BGS 9.5 Gem Mint on eBay for $2,000-$2,500. I distinctly remember seeing these cards on Buy It Now auctions for $2000. Now they are going for between $5,000-$6,000 on average. The card pictured above, which was graded a BGS Pristine 10 recently sold for $16,600 on eBay. There are only 6 BGS Pristine 10’s out of the 499 submitted to BGS for grading (1.2%). BGS does not often give out Pristine 10’s, thus this card is extremely rare and commanded a price that triples that of the current market price for a BGS 9.5 Gem Mint.
Last night on eBay another one of Tiger Woods autographed cards sold for $9,555! This one was a 2001 SP Authentic Sign of the Times Red #TW5 Rookie BGS 9.5 Gem Mint. This card was serial numbered to 29, 15 of them were graded by BGS and there are only 3 BGS 9.5 Gem Mint examples and no Pristine 10’s. This is an extremely rare card. If this card were a BGS Pristine 10 it would probably sell in the neighborhood of $30, 000 because of its limited production. The previously mentioned 2001 SP Authentic that sold for $16,600 is numbered to 900, thus much less rare.
The bottom line is that Tiger Woods autographed cards and memorabilia will definitely increase in value. Will they triple like they have over the last few years, probably not that much but maybe they will, you never know.
Happy Collecting
